Overview
Whiteman Osterman & Hanna’s Immigration Practice Group was established in 1992 and is a recognized nationwide provider of immigration-related legal services and the leading provider of these services in New York’s Capital Region. We also provide employment-based immigration-related legal services throughout the United States and advise foreign entities in Europe and Asia on the inbound transfer of global talent. We also work with a network of established immigration counsel overseas on outbound immigration issues for our clients.
The Immigration Practice Group at Whiteman Osterman & Hanna comprises seven attorneys supported by a professional team of 10 paralegals and support staff. The attorneys work closely together, sharing information, clients, and caseloads to ensure efficient and cost-effective execution of our client’s case filings. Other attorneys at the firm assist in specialized immigration matters involving collateral and indirect legal issues. We frequently work on these issues with our Labor & Employment, Education, Corporate, and Tax groups.
We serve a large and growing number of immigration clients, including healthcare institutions and multinational companies throughout New York State and across the country. We credit our success not only to our immigration law expertise but also to our efficiency, diverse staff, and orientation to client service. These characteristics have translated into fee economies for clients and a success rate in visa matters, which we are very proud of.

The Immigration Team at Whiteman Osterman & Hanna delivers high-quality, creative and expeditious immigration services to corporate and individual clients. We have the largest and most diverse immigration law practice in the Capital Region of New York (Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer and Saratoga counties), serving clients across the United States and around the world.
Representative Experience
The Firm currently represents over 200 companies, institutions, and many individuals in over 2,500 active immigration matters. Our clients include:
- Hospitals and healthcare facilities across the United States
- Leading multinational pharmaceutical and research companies, with high percentages of foreign scientists and researchers
- Professional technology/staffing agencies throughout the U.S. and in multiple foreign countries
- 20-plus public and private colleges and universities throughout the United States
- 13 public, private, and charter elementary, middle, and high schools in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Vermont, Texas, Arkansas, Massachusetts, and Florida
- Major multinational corporations throughout the U.S. and overseas
- Technology and software companies in the U.S. and abroad
We frequently prepare non-immigrant visas in the H-1B, TN, E-3, and O-1 categories for our clients. We prepare between 200-300 of these visas per year. The H-1B category accounts for the majority, perhaps as much as 75%, of our annual nonimmigrant visa workload.
The seven attorneys of the Immigration Group prepare and submit approximately 150 to 200 employment-based green card cases on an annual basis.
