QUEBEC-NEW YORK PRACTICE

In January 2008, Whiteman Osterman & Hanna LLP expanded its practice by opening a second office located in Plattsburgh, N.Y. The North Country Regional Office is headed by Plattsburgh native and Firm partner, Randall S. Beach. This new location enhances the Firm’s ability to better serve existing and new clients throughout the North Country and Quebec (“the Corridor”).

The foundation of the Quebec-New York Practice is based upon Whiteman Osterman & Hanna’s reputation for innovative solutions and professional leadership. The firm-wide team collaboration approach brings its business and institutional clients’ the identical services concentrating in legal and regulatory issues.

The Firm’s Quebec-New York Practice advises small and large Canadian companies on all aspects of doing business in the United States. Recent representations include:

  • Lead counsel in the $180 million sale of a North American manufacturing company with 1,000 employees and 20 locations in the U.S., Canada and France. The sale followed the Firm's representation of the same company in a number of acquisitions during the prior three years, each requiring coordination with Canadian counsel.

  • Representation of the largest diversified construction material and cement supplier in Canada and the United States, including assistance in daily regulatory questions and issues.

  • Representation of U.S. subsidiary of a large Canadian forest products manufacturer, including real property transactions, real property tax matters; general corporate and labor matters.

  • Representation of U.S. subsidiary of a Canadian-based food processing and distribution group, including real property transactions and land use guidance.

  • Representation of global security enterprise with respect to Canadian and U.S. environmental matters.

In addition to outstanding legal services, members of our office speak and write French and have lived and studied in Canada.
